THE BRAND
Nackiyé is an Istanbul based brand that creates garments, accessories and jewelry that are meant to outfit a purposeful way of existing in today’s fleeting world. The project was started by sisters Defne and Basak Kocabiyikoglu in a small apartment flat in Istanbul in 2019 with an intimate offering of silk kaftans, harem pants and floaty gowns.
THE INSPIRATION
Named after Defne & Basak's great-great-grandmother, the first woman dervish to ever whirl, Nackiyé acts as a bridge between past and present, the Occident and the Orient, strong will and feminine sensibility, decorum and humor. Inspired by the unique geographic and cultural medley of the Eastern Mediterranean, the designs are not after a uniform taste or style, but a sensibility.
THE COMMITMENT
Nackiyé reimagines seraglio aesthetics and proportions, invest in fine embroidery craftsmanship, couture sewing techniques, exquisite fabrics and sharp tailoring to create silhouettes that are striking and delicate all the while.
The garments are characterized by their evocative silhouettes drawn from the sisters collective memory, and are made with care using quality fabrics and materials carefully sourced from manufacturers in Europe and Japan who share the same passion for continuing heritage.
NACKIYÉ HOUSE
Today, Nackiyé House hosts a team of designers, tailors and craftsmen who are committed to bringing elegance into the everyday lives of Nackiye's international community.
Built in 1875, Akaretler Row Houses was a project of Sultan Abdulaziz and Sarkis Balyan, a prominent architect who also designed Beylerbeyi and Ciragan Palaces. The first example of a collective housing project in the Ottoman Empire, the units were built to accommodate the staff of Dolmabahce Palace and also rented out to minorities and expats. Nackiyé House, No: 19, is four stories and merges the brand’s showroom, atelier and offices, a communal kitchen and a small garden in the back.
